  5. How to Roll a Cross Joint in 6 Easy Steps

Have you ever heard of crossjoints? If the answer is yes, then you most likely encountered the idea while watching the movie “Pineapple Express” – the stoner comedy film that popularized the practice among stoners since its release in 2008.

It is during the film that the 2 main characters talk about and later on, smoke the famous joint. One of them even marveled over the idea of smoking 2 joints at once. Appearing in the shape of a cross, it’s definitely one of the more awesome joints out there.

However, its unique and amazing appearance often gives off the impression that it’s difficult to replicate and roll. This is not the case at all. In this article, you’ll learn how to roll a cross joint in 6 easy steps.

What is a Cross Joint

As mentioned, the concept of cross joints was first popularized by the 2008 movie “Pineapple Express.” It is the practice of fitting together 2 joints to create the shape of a cross or a lower-case letter “t.”

Smoking one entails lighting all 3 ends at once, resulting in a more powerful and potent smoking experience. Or as the movie character Saul describes as “a trifecta of joint smoking power.”

It’s one of the easiest creative joints to roll and has the bonus of looking cool and awesome. So, how to roll a cross joint?

Step-by-Step Guide to Rolling a Cross Joint

Supplies You Will Need:

  • Small rolling papers
  • Large rolling papers
  • Your weed of choice
  • A paperclip or needle
  • A pair of scissors
  • Optional: A small piece of cardstock or cardboard

Steps to Roll a Cross Blunt:

  1. Take your large rolling papers and roll a fat joint.

If you’re a beginner to rolling joints, then you’ll have a much easier time doing so when you have more to work with. As such, you need to take your rolling papers and roll a fat joint that is slightly thicker than your average cannabis joint.

Once you’re more experienced with cross joints, then you can make them as small or as large as you please. Make sure to leave a slight twist at the end as this will make it easier to light up later on.

Optional: You can insert the small piece of cardstock or cardboard at the butt end of your joint. This can act as a sort of mouthpiece so you can maximize every last piece of your favorite weed strain.

  1. Take the small rolling papers and roll a thin joint.

Once you’ve rolled a fat joint, it’s time for the next step which is to roll a thinner joint. This will be the cross part of your cross joint. The thinner this joint is, the easier it will be for you to put together.

Again, this is simply to make things easier for you. Once you’re more or less familiar with the practice, you can adjust everything to suit your preferences.

Similar to the fat joint, leave a bit of empty space to twist at both ends of this joint.

  1. Use the paperclip or needle to poke a hole in the fat joint.

After rolling both a fat and thin joint, take your needle or paperclip and poke a hole in the fat joint. Make sure the hole is ¾ of the way from the bottom. Also, make sure it goes completely through to the other side.

Once it pierces through the fat joint, slowly make the hole wider. The hole itself doesn’t have to be extremely wide – just wide enough to fit in the smaller and thinner joint. The smaller the hole is, the better it will seal in the thin joint.

Remember to take your time and don’t rush it as this can ruin the joint.

  1. Next is to poke a hole right in the middle of your thin joint.

Gently set aside the fat joint and take your thinner joint. Use the paperclip or needle again to poke a hole right in the middle of the joint. Similar to the previous joint, once it pierces all the way through the other end, slowly make the hole bigger.

It doesn’t have to be as large as the hole you made in the fat joint; doubling the size of the thin joint’s initial hole will be enough.

This hole will allow the air to flow through from the tip of your fat joint until the butt’s end. Not poking a hole will just result in the ends burning without you being able to inhale any smoke.

  1. Now, insert the thin joint into the fat joint via the hole you made earlier.

Once you’ve prepared both joints, you can now assemble them and make a cross joint. To do this, you need to slowly insert the thin joint into the hole you poked earlier in the fat joint. Make sure to do it slowly and carefully to avoid ruining the joints. Going too fast can result in ripping either the thin or fat joint.

Continue inserting the thin joint until the smaller hole you poked into it is also inside the fat joint. Again, this hole will help the joint’s airflow.

  1. Lastly, reinforce and seal your finished cross joint.

Once you have successfully inserted the thin joint, make sure you reinforce it with more rolling papers. Use the pair of scissors to cut off the glue ends and wrap these around the area where the 2 joints intersect.

This helps not just reinforce the structure of your cross joint but also to make it airtight, ensuring that you maximize your cross joint. Once you’ve done so, you are now ready to light it up and enjoy the experience of cross blunt smoking.

Final Thoughts

Easy, right? Learning how to roll a cross joint isn’t difficult, although it does require extra care and gentleness, especially when inserting the thin joint into the fat one. It may be more challenging at first, but with enough practice, you can adjust the thickness and size of your joints according to your preferences.
